A+ Federal Credit Union announced on Mar. 24 that its A+ Education Foundation continues to provide financial support to Central Texas educators, with nearly $1.5 million in grants awarded since the foundation’s creation in 2005.

The foundation aims to help teachers who often use their own resources for classroom materials and innovative programs. This support is seen as vital for strengthening local schools and empowering both educators and students.

According to the credit union, more than 1,400 educator-led projects have received funding so far, benefiting over 50 partner schools and districts. Grants have supported a range of initiatives such as robotics programs, multilingual literacy centers, bee-keeping activities, and STEAM projects designed to encourage creativity and critical thinking among students.

Michelle R., a recipient of a 2025 grant from the foundation, said, “When children are given the freedom to move, explore, and engage with hands-on tools in a space that supports their needs, learning becomes not just possible — but joyful and meaningful.”

Currently certified educators can apply for grants up to $1,500 for new or ongoing educational programs. Applicants must be or become members of A+ Federal Credit Union and work at a school within its field of membership. The application deadline is May 31.

A+ Federal Credit Union was established by Austin teachers in 1949. Today it serves over 193,000 members across the community with financial products as well as education-focused giving programs from its headquarters at 6420 E. US 290 SVRD in Austin.
