Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on April 8 that $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations will be distributed to cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts this month. This amount is a 10.5 percent increase compared to April of last year.
The monthly allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report taxes each month. The distribution aims to support the budgets of local governments and their services across Texas.
According to the announcement, cities will receive $679.4 million, which is a 9.3 percent increase from April 2025 and a year-to-date rise of 3.8 percent. Transit systems are set to get $233.8 million—up by 10.8 percent from last year and up by 4.6 percent so far this year.
Counties will receive $74 million, reflecting a significant increase of 16.4 percent over the previous April and a year-to-date gain of 7.6 percent, while special purpose districts are allocated $112.7 million—a jump of 13.5 percent over last year and an annual rise of 8.3 percent.
Details about individual allocations for each city, county, transit system, and special purpose district can be found in the Comptroller’s Monthly Sales Tax Allocation Comparison Summary Reports.
The increased revenue provides additional resources for local governments as they plan for public services throughout the state.
