Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced on March 11 that he will distribute $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations to cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose districts for the month of March. This amount represents a 2.1 percent increase compared to March 2025.
The monthly allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report their taxes each month. The distribution is intended to support local governments and public services across Texas.
According to the announcement, cities will receive $683.3 million, which is a slight decrease of 0.3 percent from last year but marks a 2.4 percent increase year-to-date. Transit systems are set to get $238.8 million, up 6.8 percent from last March and up 2.9 percent for the year so far. Counties will receive $69.6 million, an increase of 6.3 percent over last year and a rise of 5.1 percent year-to-date, while special purpose districts will be allocated $112.3 million—up by 5.2 percent from last March and up by 6.9 percent for the year.
Hancock said these allocations reflect ongoing economic activity in communities throughout Texas and provide important funding for local government operations.
