CapMetro has announced the ongoing development of its Transit Plan 2035, which will guide Central Texas’ transit network for the next five to ten years. The plan outlines a vision for improving bus, rail, and Pickup services across the region.

Recommendations in the plan are informed by data analysis, coordination with stakeholders, and feedback from more than 8,000 community members who participated in a public survey last fall. CapMetro is preparing for Austin’s first Light Rail service, which is expected to have a significant economic impact on the city.

In the first five years leading up to Light Rail service, CapMetro aims to maintain existing services while making affordable changes intended to increase ridership. Changes include new Rapid Routes 800 Pleasant Valley and 837 Expo Center. Once Light Rail opens, CapMetro plans to focus on further growth and adjustments within the bus network.

The final phase of Transit Plan 2035 will address system expansion beyond 2035 and incorporate elements of Project Connect not implemented in earlier phases.

Community members are invited to participate in open houses scheduled for August 26 (virtual session) and August 28 at 2910 E 5th Street in Austin. These sessions offer opportunities for residents to meet project staff and engage in transportation planning activities. Registration information is available at capmetro.org/transitplan2035. Those unable to attend can provide feedback or sign up for updates via the website.

CapMetro’s Community Engagement team continues efforts to involve local residents through programs and initiatives aimed at increasing public participation. More details about these opportunities can be found at capmetro.org/community-engagement.
