The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the start of the 2026 Census Test, with activities set to take place in Huntsville, Alabama and Spartanburg, South Carolina. The test aims to assess operations that involve the use of the U.S. Postal Service for tasks usually handled by Census Bureau field workers. It will also include some limited in-field enumeration work.

According to a statement from the agency, “The Census Bureau remains committed to conducting the most accurate count in history for the 2030 Census and looks forward to the continued partnership with local communities.”

This test is part of ongoing preparations to ensure improved methods and greater accuracy for the upcoming decennial census.
