The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) Region II recently convened its conference in the Washington, D.C. area, focusing on the challenges faced by federal workers amid the ongoing government shutdown and staffing reductions.

Attendees discussed how these circumstances are affecting employees across federal agencies. The conference highlighted concerns about job security, delayed paychecks, and reduced support for essential public services.

Speakers at the event addressed the impact of these issues on workers’ well-being and called for increased solidarity among unions to advocate for better working conditions. One participant noted that many federal employees are struggling to meet their financial obligations due to interrupted income.

CBTU Region II leaders emphasized the importance of collective action during periods of uncertainty and urged members to remain engaged in efforts to protect workers’ rights.
