El Paso Electric announced on Feb. 27 that it will provide a $40 million refund to its Texas customers, which will be distributed as an automatic bill credit during the March, April, and May 2026 billing cycles.

The company said the interim refund of $40,054,380 will appear as a line-item credit on eligible customers’ bills. Customers do not need to take any action to receive the credit; it will be applied automatically.

According to El Paso Electric, this refund is the result of selling excess generation to other utilities when EPE has surplus power and access to lower-cost fuel that is not available in other markets. The company said it continually seeks ways to optimize its system for customer benefit.

El Paso Electric serves approximately 465,000 customers across a 10,000 square mile area from Hatch, New Mexico to Van Horn, Texas. Its service region includes major cities such as El Paso and Las Cruces.
