El Paso Electric Company (EPE) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) to connect with potential developers for future energy projects in the region. The EOI, released on March 2, 2026, is intended as a first step to assess market interest ahead of an official Request for Proposals (RFP) expected on May 18, 2026.

The company is looking for input from parties involved in demand-side solutions such as innovative load management, demand response, distributed energy resources, and efficiency programs. EPE is also seeking interest from those working with emerging technologies including geothermal energy, long-duration energy storage (LDES), and carbon-compliant thermal generation that can help meet New Mexico’s goal of becoming carbon-free by 2045.

According to EPE, this process aims to “secure new energy resources that balance system reliability with sustainability and regulatory standards.” The company encourages interested parties to submit brief responses in order to foster a competitive bidding environment.
