More than 100 tax and accounting professionals met at The Line Hotel in early December for the annual EY Austin CPE Conference. Supported by sponsors HPI and Hire Solutions, the event addressed key topics affecting finance and accounting.

The conference focused on providing updates about tax policy and planning, exploring the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on the profession, reviewing trends in financial reporting and regulation, and assessing current US economic conditions. These issues were discussed amid a changing regulatory environment and uncertain economic signals.

EY partners and guest speakers presented sessions on new developments from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as technology’s role in compliance. Presenters explained how SEC priorities—such as non-GAAP measures, segment reporting, and revenue recognition—are shaping disclosures and influencing best practices.

Taylor Sisson, EY Austin Office Managing Partner, commented: “The big takeaway was that proactive engagement with regulators is more important than ever, and I appreciated the great discussion on what that engagement should look like. That’s our goal with this conference: to share ideas and perspectives with leaders in our community and give Austin professionals a valuable opportunity to build relationships.”

Artificial intelligence was also a major topic. EY leaders outlined practical uses for AI in finance teams, including its impact on reconciliations, financial statements, risk management, and audit quality. The importance of establishing strong governance strategies when integrating AI into business processes was also discussed.

As attendees considered the uncertain outlook for 2026, Sisson noted: “What I appreciate most about our CPE conference is how everyone leaves with action plans already in mind. It’s motivating to see more than a hundred passionate professionals come together to learn how they can strengthen their careers, their businesses and our broader economy.”

Sisson emphasized that building community was another benefit of the event during a period of rapid change for the industry.
