Governor Greg Abbott responded on Tuesday to a federal court decision in El Paso that blocked the use of Texas’ 2025 congressional redistricting map.

In his statement, Abbott said: “The Legislature redrew our congressional maps to better reflect Texans’ conservative voting preferences – and for no other reason. Any claim that these maps are discriminatory is absurd and unsupported by the testimony offered during ten days of hearings. This ruling is clearly erroneous and undermines the authority the U.S. Constitution assigns to the Texas Legislature by imposing a different map by judicial edict. The State of Texas will swiftly appeal to the United States Supreme Court.”

Texas lawmakers had recently approved new congressional district boundaries, which have faced legal challenges over allegations of discrimination against minority voters. The federal court’s injunction prevents the state from using these maps in upcoming elections while litigation continues.

The case now heads toward further review as Texas officials prepare an appeal to the Supreme Court.
