Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together both active members and retirees, who met with state representatives and senators to discuss issues including labor rights, wages, pensions, and Social Security.
During the conference, union leaders highlighted their opposition to proposed legislation that they say could undermine collective bargaining rights and affect the financial security of workers. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class,” according to statements made at the event.
The group’s efforts included direct engagement with lawmakers as part of their strategy to represent machinists throughout Florida, spanning regions from the Kennedy Space Center to South Florida and the Panhandle. Organizers said their main objective was to shape policy decisions affecting union workers’ quality of life while also preparing for upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
