Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Military Preparedness Commission have announced a $17 million loan from the Texas Military Value Revolving Loan Fund (TMVRLF) to the city of Del Rio. The funds will be used for two major water infrastructure projects: rehabilitating the San Felipe East Springs Containment Wall and expanding and modernizing Del Rio’s Water Treatment Plant. These upgrades are intended to increase water capacity resilience for both Del Rio and Laughlin Air Force Base.
“Texas is proud to support the City of Del Rio and the Laughlin Air Force Base as we invest in critical water infrastructure that Texans depend on,” said Governor Abbott. “These funds will strengthen the local community, support mission readiness at Laughlin, and advance our commitment to a strong military community across Texas. I thank the Texas Military Preparedness Commission for their investment and dedication to the future of Southwest Texas and our military communities.”
The TMVRLF is designed to provide financial assistance through loans funded by general obligation bonds. The program aims to help defense communities in Texas with projects that enhance the value of nearby military bases.
Governor Abbott has led his office since being elected in 2014, focusing on economic growth, job creation, education improvement, individual liberties protection, parental involvement in schools, and border security efforts according to information from the official website. His administration operates statewide from its main offices in Austin at the State Insurance Building according to official sources. Under his leadership, Texas has seen growth in employment levels and recognition such as being named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2024 according to official reports.
