Governor Greg Abbott announced on Mar. 27 a series of appointments and reappointments to various boards, councils, and authorities across Texas. The selections include positions related to emergency management, transportation infrastructure, healthcare regulation, water resource oversight, offender supervision, disability advocacy, emergency communications, independent living services, and law enforcement standards.

These appointments are significant as they shape the leadership of organizations that affect public safety, health services, water resources management, disability rights advocacy, and local infrastructure projects throughout the state.

Among those appointed or reappointed are Matthew Powell to the Business Advisory Council for disaster recovery guidance; Frank Parker Jr. as presiding officer of the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority; Manoranjan “Mano” Mahadeva to the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners; William Carbonara to the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority Board overseeing water resources; Pamela Pacher as Interstate Compact Administrator for Adult Offender Supervision; Jed Alton Brown as presiding officer of the Webb County – City of Laredo Regional Mobility Authority; Tonya Detten (reappointed), Ron Mullins and Troy Weber (appointed) to the Red River Authority Board with Ruben Arias also appointed for a shorter term; Leslie Cantu, Marla Williams, Elizabeth “Elle” Holtzman and Jeanie Beaman (appointed) with Peggy Schmidt (reappointed) to the Rehabilitation Council advocating for people with disabilities; Clinton Sawyer reappointed to oversee statewide emergency communications programs; Dana L. McGrath, Patrick Sturdivant and Tiffany Walker reappointed to guide independent living policy development for persons with disabilities; David Criner, Jason Griffin and Rita Watkins appointed to ensure high standards in law enforcement personnel.

According to the official website, Governor Abbott’s office has contributed toward Texas leading in job growth and record employment levels. In addition,the website notes that Greg Abbott was named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2024.

The priorities under Governor Abbott have included job creation initiatives, expanding economic opportunities statewide, enhancing education quality while supporting parental empowerment in schools, protecting individual liberties such as Second Amendment rights or religious freedom protections,
