Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to apply for replacement benefits. This extension follows food losses caused by the January winter storm.
“Thanks to our partners in the White House, Texans affected by the recent winter storm have more time to apply for SNAP benefits to replace any food they lost,” said Governor Abbott. “By extending the replacement benefit deadline, Texans are better equipped to feed their families and recover from the effects of the freezing weather. I thank Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Trump administration for their unwavering support of Texas families.”
HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth stated, “The winter storm and power outages left many communities in difficult situations. We are thankful that we can offer this support to families who are still recovering from the storms.”
SNAP recipients now have until February 23, 2026, to submit applications for replacement benefits. According to HHSC, approved funds will be added to Lone Star Cards within two business days after a request is received.
Those seeking replacement benefits must visit a local HHSC office. Information on office locations can be found at YourTexasBenefits.com by clicking “Find an Office” at the bottom of the page.
Texans affected by disasters may access further information about available assistance through the HHSC Receiving Disaster Assistance webpage. For additional local resources such as food or shelter, individuals can dial 2-1-1 and select option 1.
