Governor Greg Abbott announced on Apr. 2 a series of appointments and reappointments to several key Texas boards and committees, selecting individuals for roles that oversee criminal justice, health care, water management, education, and state archives.

The appointments are intended to support the state’s ongoing efforts in public service administration and policy guidance across various sectors. These decisions affect the direction of advisory groups responsible for issues such as mental health in the criminal justice system, special education policy, water resource management, and historical preservation.

Among those appointed are Blake Harris, Ph.D., Stacey Mathews, Nelda Cacciotti, Trent Marshall, and Casey O’Neal, Ph.D., who will serve on the Advisory Committee to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments. Brandon Cantazaro, M.D., Robert Suter, D.O., Robert “Bobby” Greenberg, M.D., and Divyansu Patel, M.D. were named to the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee. Gary Krause and Eliza Santos McElhaney join Mark Moczygemba and Chasey Sanchez on the Nueces River Authority Board of Directors.

Other appointments include Rebecca Faulkner, Felicia Penn, Kristen Tuttle Urbanovsky—alongside returning members Claudia Cavazos, April Estrada (Ed.D.), and Amy Litzinger—to the Special Education Continuing Advisory Committee; Alfonso Charles as Presiding Judge of the Tenth Administrative Judicial Region; Aaron Kinsey as Chair of the Texas State Board of Education; Monte Monroe (Ph.D.) and Leslie Recine to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission; and Philip George to the Upper Neches River Municipal Water Authority Board.

According to the official website, Governor Abbott’s office has contributed to job growth in Texas while maintaining its main offices at Austin’s State Insurance Building. The office was also recognized when Abbott was listed among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2024 according to official records. Since his election in 2014 according to official information, Abbott has led statewide initiatives focused on job creation, economic opportunity expansion, educational enhancement—including parental empowerment—and border security.
