Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in partnership with the City of San Augustine and San Augustine Main Street, will host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, September 29. The event will take place both virtually and in person at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce.
“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in San Augustine, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain how communities can achieve the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation and discuss its benefits. She will also answer questions from attendees.
The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was introduced by TMO in 2016 as a way to support music industry development across the state. Certification signals to industry professionals that participating communities are committed to growing their local music sectors. The upcoming workshop marks San Augustine’s first step toward certification; if successful, it would join more than 85 other cities in Texas already holding this designation.
Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to attend either in person or online. Additional information about joining the meeting can be found through this link: bit.ly/46GtgV3. Questions regarding participation may be directed to Shelby Curtis, Main Street Manager for the City of San Augustine.
