Governor Greg Abbott has appointed James H.C. “Jamey” Steen to the Texas Historical Commission, with a term ending on February 1, 2027. The Texas Historical Commission leads and coordinates efforts to support projects from county historical commissions, societies, agencies, and institutions that focus on preserving the state’s archeological and historical heritage. It also serves as a central resource for historical information.

Steen is a partner at Buckhorn Resources, L.P., based in Houston. He holds life memberships in several organizations including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Mensa, Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, and the Texas Land & Mineral Owners Association. Steen is an Eagle Scout and participates in the Sons of the Republic of Texas – William Barret Travis Chapter No. 7. He also serves as a trustee for the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield Association. Steen earned his Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
