Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John E. Burt as the Jasper County Criminal District Attorney, with a term ending December 31, 2026.
Burt is currently the 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Jasper County. His previous experience includes serving as an assistant criminal district attorney in Newton County and working in private legal practice. He also held positions as assistant superintendent and superintendent of Buna Independent School District (ISD). Burt is a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association and formerly served as president of the Buna ISD School Board. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University, along with a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
