Governor Greg Abbott has appointed JoMeka Gray to the State Board for Educator Certification. Her term will run until February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for setting certification and continuing education requirements as well as standards of conduct for public school teachers.

Gray, who lives in Belton, works as a district and campus teacher leader at Kennedy-Powell STEM Elementary in Temple Independent School District. She has worked in education for over 12 years, previously teaching first grade at Killeen ISD and both kindergarten and first grade at Temple ISD. She has also participated on the Contemporary Relevance Committee.

Gray is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Texas State Teacher Association, the Texas Classroom Teacher Association, and the National Education Association. In addition to her work in education, she volunteers with the Girl Scouts in Central Texas.

Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. She holds an Early Childhood National Board Certification, Generalist (EC-6) Certification, and English as a Second Language Supplemental Certification.
