Governor Greg Abbott spoke at the newly established Post Oak Ridge State Park in Lampasas, where he addressed a group of sportsmen and public officials. The event marked the official opening of one of Texas’ newest state parks.

“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but allows us to be able to create parks like this for many years going forward,” said Governor Abbott. “It’s important that every family in our state and every child in our state is going to have access to more parks like this. This is a great day for the future of Texas and for the future of Texas generations.”

Abbott was joined by Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director David Yoskowitz, TPWD Commission Chairman Paul Foster, Senator Charles Perry, Representative Armando Walle, as well as other local and state officials.

During his remarks, Governor Abbott reflected on his childhood experiences as a Boy Scout in East Texas, emphasizing how time spent outdoors shaped his appreciation for nature. He also acknowledged Texas voters and legislators for their support in establishing the $1 billion Centennial Parks Fund. According to Abbott, this fund aims to provide all Texans with opportunities to connect with outdoor spaces and preserve the state’s heritage.

The Centennial Parks Fund was created in 2023 through voter approval of Proposition 14. The legislature allocated $1 billion to support the development and improvement of state parks. Post Oak Ridge State Park is among three properties acquired using resources from this fund.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott leads the executive office responsible for statewide services and policy initiatives such as economic development, education enhancement, job growth efforts, and border security programs. His administration operates out of Austin at the State Insurance Building and has been recognized nationally; Greg Abbott was named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2024 (official website).

Additional photographs from today’s event are expected to be released when available.
