Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. “Mike” Lewis as the Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner. Lewis will serve in this role until July 12, 2031. The commissioners are tasked with overseeing the provisions of the Sabine River Compact, an agreement involving Texas, Louisiana, and the United States.

Lewis is currently an investigator for the Newton County District Attorney’s office. He serves on several local boards and committees, including the Jasper/Newton County Health Board, Newton County Investment Committee, and Newton County Bid Review Committee. He is also a county committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and belongs to Rainbow Masonic Lodge #735.

Lewis served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1971 before receiving an honorable discharge. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
