Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Weldon Riggs to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District, with his term now set to end on February 1, 2029. The district’s mission is to preserve and manage underground water resources in Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, and Frio counties.
Weldon Riggs lives in the Black Hill Community of Atascosa County and works as a cattle rancher, raising Angus cattle in both Atascosa and Bexar counties. He is active in several organizations related to agriculture and education. Riggs is a member and former director of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas, a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and also belongs to the Texas State Teachers Association.
He serves as a committeeman for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition School Tours Committee, construction co-chair for Christmas Village Ministries, agricultural representative for the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group Region L, member of the Blackhill Volunteer Fire Department, board member of the South Texas Weather Modification Association, and records sexton as well as former president of the Oak Island Cemetery Association.
Riggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and a Master of Education in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University.
