The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced a call for participation in the Young Workers March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, February 7 in Washington, D.C.
The IAM will join other labor unions and worker advocacy groups at the event to advocate for better opportunities for young workers. The organization highlighted several challenges facing younger members of the workforce, including affordability issues, housing shortages, healthcare access difficulties, childcare costs, and increasing student debt. These issues are seen as significant threats to job prospects and community stability.
According to the IAM, “Young workers today are facing multiple, overlapping crises, including: An affordability crisis; A housing crisis; A healthcare crisis; A childcare crisis; A growing student debt crisis.” The statement continued: “These challenges threaten the future of work and the stability of our communities. That’s why young workers and unions are coming together to demand action, fairness, and real solutions.”
The march is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill located at 400 New Jersey Ave., NW. A rally will follow at noon at the U.S. Capitol Building.
The IAM encouraged members and supporters to participate in support of improved job quality, economic security, and a stable future for working families. For further details about the event or participation inquiries, individuals can contact Dee Colbert, IAM Women’s and Young Workers Director.
