Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 776 organized their third annual Homeless Drive to provide food and resources to unhoused individuals in Fort Worth, according to a March 24 announcement.

The event took place as many union members are preparing for upcoming contract negotiations, but organizers said that supporting the community remains a priority. The Homeless Drive brought together IAM District 776 members and received support from Texas State Senator Taylor Rehmet, who is also a member of the district.

The annual drive is designed to encourage donations and distribute essential items with compassion. Organizers said that local union districts play an important role in maintaining strong relationships with their communities during times of need.

District 776 Business Representative Eric Meriwether said, “Our retired President Paul Black shared something with me during his retirement party that I carry with me always: Never forget where you come from. I’ve always lived by that, and it guides everything I do for our members and our community.”

To mark another successful year for the initiative, participants celebrated with classic Texas barbecue and expressed optimism about continuing the event next year.
