Members of IAM Union Local 696 (District 19) Rail Division outlined the comprehensive machinery rebuild process at the CSX Bryan Park roadway shop in Richmond, Va., according to an April 2 announcement.

The topic is important as it highlights the skilled work involved in maintaining and upgrading equipment essential for rail operations. The quality of this work impacts both efficiency and safety on the rail lines.

According to IAM Union members, their process involves a full teardown, fabrication, and intricate electrical and hydraulic assembly. The union emphasizes that its members are dedicated to high-quality craftsmanship throughout each stage of repair.

Fellow union operators said that once the equipment produced by IAM reaches the rail lines, it operates like a “Cadillac.”

This focus on thorough rebuilding and attention to detail demonstrates how union labor contributes to reliable railway infrastructure. The commitment expressed by these workers reflects ongoing efforts within the industry to maintain high standards for safety and performance.
