Taylor Rehmet, a long-time member and leader of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Union, was recently sworn in as a Texas State Senator. Rehmet is noted as the first rank-and-file union member to hold this office in the state.

Rehmet has previously held several leadership positions within the union. He stated that his move to the legislature is “an extension of his work as a steward for workers’ rights.” He also pledged to focus on issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security, and public education.

The inauguration marks a notable moment for organized labor in Texas, highlighting the increasing involvement of union members in state politics.
