TCEQ approves over $1.9 million in penalties for environmental violations

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has approved penalties totaling $1,751,893 against 22 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations. The agency issued agreed orders in several enforcement categories: four air quality cases, two industrial wastewater discharge cases, two multi-media cases, eight municipal wastewater discharge cases, and five public water systems cases. A default order was also issued for one petroleum storage tank violation.

Additionally, on January 13, 2026, the executive director approved penalties amounting to $157,838 against 49 entities.

The Texas Department of Environmental Quality is responsible for enforcing environmental regulations across Texas, including oversight of air emissions, water pollution control, waste disposal management and petroleum storage regulation. The agency operates from its Austin headquarters and maintains 16 regional offices throughout the state to ensure compliance with environmental standards (official website).
