Governor Greg Abbott attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Texas Instruments’ new 300 mm semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Sherman. The event marked the opening of a site expected to employ thousands and bring an estimated $40 billion in capital investment over several decades.
“Semiconductors are essential to building the space and artificial intelligence infrastructure that will define our future,” said Governor Abbott. “Today’s announcement by Texas Instruments helps Texas to expand our No. 1 ranking and helps lead the semiconductor manufacturing boom we have here in Texas. With help from Texas Instruments, Texas will remain the home for cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing and the home of more job opportunities than any other state in the United States of America.”
The ceremony included participation from TI president and CEO Haviv Ilan, Senator Brent Hagenbuch, Representative Shelley Luther, Sherman Mayor Shawn Teamann, and other officials.
Texas Instruments has a long history in Dallas, including developing the first commercial silicon transistor in 1954 and Jack Kilby’s invention of the integrated circuit in 1958. The company’s partnership with Texas is credited as foundational for modern technology.
At the event, Governor Abbott thanked TI for choosing Texas as the location for this advanced facility. He highlighted that Texas leads nationally in semiconductor manufacturing capacity and remains at the forefront of microchip development.
Texas Instruments designs, manufactures, and sells analog and embedded processing chips used across various industries such as automotive, industrial systems, personal electronics, enterprise systems, and communications equipment. As a Fortune 500 company among the top ten global semiconductor firms, TI aims to make electronics more affordable through its products.
