The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated statistics on geographic mobility and place of birth for 2024. The new data, drawn from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, provides insight into migration trends within the United States.

The State-to-State Migration Flows table package includes two main tables. The first offers estimates of how many people moved between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and from abroad to the United States in 2024. The second table presents information about where people currently reside by their place of birth across these same locations.

According to the Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.” These figures help illustrate patterns in how Americans relocate both domestically and internationally each year.

This release is part of an ongoing effort by the Census Bureau to provide detailed demographic data that can inform policymakers, researchers, and the public about population shifts nationwide.
