The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) reported a record spring enrollment of 24,901 students for the Spring 2026 semester. This figure marks a 4.4% increase compared to the previous year and is the highest spring enrollment in the university’s history.

The university also saw a 5.2% rise in credit hours taken by students, indicating strong participation and persistence as the semester began.

“UTEP’s growth this spring shows that students and families see the value of a UTEP education and are persisting to get that degree,” said Heather Wilson, president of UTEP. “Education is the best path to a better life.”

Undergraduate enrollment increased by 5.1%, continuing an upward trend from Fall 2025. Enrollment in new master’s programs rose by 6%, reflecting ongoing interest in advanced degrees. Additionally, new transfer student enrollment grew by 3.1% compared to last spring.

“We are so proud that students are choosing UTEP in greater numbers. We know that college degrees are important to many career opportunities and are pleased that so many students trust the quality of UTEP degrees,” said Amanda Vasquez-Vicario, Ph.D., vice president for enrollment management. “Much of this spring’s record is due to high levels of student persistence, which is supported by our dedicated campus teams.”

Several colleges within UTEP experienced significant growth over the past year. The College of Nursing now enrolls 2,650 students, representing a 12.6% increase from Spring 2025, while the College of Health Sciences reached an enrollment of 2,040 students—a rise of 9.6%. These increases reflect both regional and national demand for healthcare professionals and underscore UTEP’s contribution to workforce development in the Paso del Norte region.

Vasquez-Vicario emphasized continued focus on supporting student success through retention efforts, timely progress toward graduation, and strong career outcomes. “We’re committed to ensuring that every student who chooses UTEP has the support and resources they need to thrive academically and professionally.”
